It doesn’t matter how careful you are with your carpet, there are bound to be accidents. This is especially true when you have pets or small children in your home. One thing that you don’t want to find on your carpet is ink. When you have an ink spill, it can seem daunting to get it out. Have no fear, there are several techniques that can be helpful when removing ink from your carpet. Heart of Texas Chem-Dry is here to talk about a few methods that have proven useful when you find ink on your carpet.
How Do You Get Ink Stains Out of Carpeting?
Following are the most effective ways to remove ink from your carpet on your own.
– Hairspray: Believe it or not, hairspray can be an effective tool in removing ink from carpet fibers. This is especially true if you have natural fibers like wool. You will need to first spray the area with a good amount of hairspray that will start to soften the ink and make it easy to blot up from the carpet. Make sure you aren’t scrubbing the carpet as this can sometimes cause the stain to spread.
– Rubbing Alcohol: Another effective tool in removing hairspray is rubbing alcohol. If you have found permanent marker like a sharpie on your carpet, it can be a good way to get rid of it. You should always use a clean, white towel to remove the ink as the rubbing alcohol can cause color transfer from a colored cloth. Again, make sure you are blotting rather than scrubbing the stain from your carpet fibers.
– Dishwashing Soap: Any ink that is water-based like washable markers, can be removed using dishwashing soap mixed with lukewarm water. Even if the marker says that it is washable, you can still see staining if you don’t work to get rid of it as soon as possible. Make sure after you have gotten rid of the ink, you use water to rinse away the dish soap mixture so that dirt and debris don’t stick to the carpet.
– Shaving Cream: Another trick that you may have never thought of, is shaving cream. Put the shaving cream directly on the ink stain. You will see it start to foam, and possibly turn the color of the ink as it works to loosen the stain. You will then want to add water and suck it all up with a shop vac. You can repeat these steps if necessary to completely remove the stain.
