There are a few stains that happen that seem nearly impossible to remove from your carpet. One of the worst ones is blood! If you have ever gashed your foot or had a child bump their head the blood seems to make a mess. These drips are going to get everywhere because you are more concerned about the injury as opposed to the clean carpet. The blood stains are a problem because often times the stain is not treated right away. The longer any stain has to sit the harder it will be to treat and remove. There are many spills that can be cleaned using the same simple cleaning solution and process. This is great but not the case when it comes to blood. The blood needs to be cleaned in a particular way in order to get it out of the carpet and not make the stain worse. Heart Of Texas Chem-Dry lists the steps necessary to get a blood stain out of your carpet.
Remove Excess Blood from Carpet
If you are ready to take care of a blood stain that has dripped on the carpet you need to act quick. Sometimes this is possible and you can get the stain cleaned while it is still wet. If the stain is wet you can start by dabbing the area to pick up any and all blood that has not yet soaked in the carpet. You may need to use several rags to accomplish this step. If you have to treat a blood stain that has dried out you may need to scrape the dried blood first. You can use a credit card of soft bristle brush to scratch off the blood. After you have done what you can to remove the dried blood you need to vacuum the area to get the debris off the carpet.
Use Cold Water to Soak Blood Stain
The next step is very important to the cleaning up of any blood on your carpet. Once the excess blood has been removed you need to soak the area so that you can start to remove what you can. Start with water in a spray bottle that you can spritz the area. The most important part is that you need to use cold water only! If you use water that is warm or hot you are actually setting the blood stain and making it near impossible to remove. Spray the area and allow to sit for a few minutes. Then take a clean rag and dab away the blood and the cold water.
Use a Carpet Cleaner Solution
One cleaning solution that tends to work well when dealing with blood is a salt paste. You use table salt and cold water to mix up a paste. Once it is ready you need to apply it to the area that needs to be treated. The paste can be left on the spot for five minutes. Then you can dab away and pick up the salt that has dried up. Use a vacuum to finish the process.
