Carpet stains are an inevitable part of home life, especially in households with kids, pets, or frequent guests. Knowing how to effectively remove common carpet stains can save you time, money, and frustration. Common Types of Carpet Stains

1) Coffee & Tea Stains. Coffee and tea can leave stubborn, dark stains on your carpet. To remove these stains, blot up as much of the liquid as possible with a clean cloth. Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar, one tablespoon of dish soap, and two cups of warm water. Apply the solution to the stain with a clean cloth, blotting until the stain lifts. Rinse with cold water and blot dry.
2) Red Wine Stains. Red wine stains can be particularly tricky. As soon as the spill occurs, blot up as much wine as possible. Sprinkle salt on the stain to absorb the remaining liquid. After a few minutes, vacuum up the salt. Mix one part dish soap with two parts hydrogen peroxide, apply to the stain, and blot with a clean cloth. Rinse with water and blot dry.
3) Pet Accident Stains. Pet stains not only discolor carpets but can also leave unpleasant odors. Blot up any excess liquid with paper towels. Use an enzyme-based cleaner designed for pet stains to break down the proteins in the urine or feces. Follow the product’s instructions carefully. For a homemade solution, mix white vinegar and water in equal parts, spray on the stain, and blot. Follow with a sprinkling of baking soda, let it sit for a few hours, and then vacuum.
4) Grease & Oil Stains. Grease and oil can be challenging to remove because they repel water. Start by blotting up as much of the grease as possible with a paper towel. Sprinkle cornstarch or baking soda on the stain to absorb the oil, let it sit for 15 minutes, then vacuum. Apply a small amount of dish soap mixed with warm water to the stain, blotting gently. Rinse and blot dry.
5) Ink Stains. Ink stains can be particularly daunting. Dab the stain gently with rubbing alcohol using a clean cloth. Avoid rubbing, as this can spread the ink. Continue dabbing until the ink lifts. Rinse with water and blot dry. If the stain persists, try a commercial ink remover.
6) Blood Stains. Blood stains should be treated with cold water, as hot water can set the stain. Blot the stain with a cloth dipped in cold water. Mix one tablespoon of dish soap with two cups of cold water and apply to the stain, blotting gently. Rinse with cold water and blot dry.
7) Chocolate Stains. Allow any solid chocolate to harden before attempting to remove it. Scrape off as much as possible with a dull knife. Mix one tablespoon of dish soap with two cups of warm water, apply to the stain, and blot gently. Rinse with water and blot dry.
8) Juice & Soda Drink Stains. Blot up as much liquid as possible with a clean cloth. Mix one tablespoon of dish soap, one tablespoon of white vinegar, and two cups of warm water. Apply the solution to the stain and blot until the stain lifts. Rinse with cold water and blot dry.
9) Mud Stains. Let mud dry completely before attempting to clean it. Vacuum up as much dry mud as possible. Mix one tablespoon of dish soap with two cups of warm water, apply to the stain, and blot. Rinse with water and blot dry.
10) Gum & Wax Stains. For gum, freeze the gum with ice cubes and then scrape it off with a dull knife. For wax, place a paper towel over the wax and iron on a low setting until the wax is absorbed into the paper towel.
