Side Effects of Fumes & How to Remove Old Motor Oil Stains from Carpet in Grapevine, TX

Most people love having carpet in their home. There is something so comforting about the soft feel of carpet beneath bare feet. With small children especially, having carpet is convenient because you don’t have to worry about them falling as much as you do with tile, and it brings a level of comfort to them that you just can’t find with hard floors. Keeping up with all the things that get dragged in by the kids and dogs seems to be a never-ending task for many moms and dads. But what do you do if someone forgets to take their work boots and drudges motor oil and grease through carpeted rooms. Heart of Texas ChemDry would like to give you some information and advice on how to clean up grease or oil stains from your carpeting.

How to Remove Oil or Grease Spills on Carpet

First you will want to pour some baking soda over the stains (this can be a tedious task if it is in a high traffic area and more than one spot). Let the baking soda sit for 10-15 minutes. If no baking soda is available corn starch will work as well. Next you will want to vacuum up the baking soda. Then apply a few drops of dry cleaning solution to a clean cloth and apply the cloth directly to the stain and blot up as much of the oil as possible, you will want to make sure you are using a clean spot on the rag each time so you don’t reintroduce the stain back to the area you just cleaned and re-soil the carpet. Then if the stain is still visible, use Chem Dry grease and oil stain remover and spray it over the stain. Allow the solution to sit for a few minutes, then using a clean damp cloth, blot the stain from the outside in so you don’t spread the stain.
