Get Cigarette Smell Out of Carpets with Professional Carpet Cleaning
Carpets and other fibrous materials hold onto odors very well. Homes with large areas of carpet will have a major odor problem especially for those who smoke inside the home. To remove smoke odors in the carpets, one of the most effective sources is to use a professional carpet cleaning service. A professional service comes with cleaning agents that can eliminate smoke odors that are trapped inside the carpets. For those who smoke inside their home, however, there really is no permanent solution. The odor will return and once again need attention. To prevent smoke odors from returning, it is recommended that you smoke outside. For those who have moved into a home where there was a previous smoker, a professional carpet cleaning service is the best answer.
Homemade Odor Eliminator Spray
There are ways to help reduce the odor in your home yourself. You can start by sprinkling liberally baking soda over the carpet. Let the baking soda stand on the carpet for 30 to 60 minutes. You will want to give the baking soda time to absorb the odors. Then vacuum up the baking soda over the carpet. If there is still some remaining odors, mix two parts water to one part vinegar into a spray bottle. Spray the carpet down. The vinegar should kill the bacteria causing the odors in the carpet. The vinegar odor will go away after a few hours. However, if you don’t like to use vinegar you can also mix dry lavender in with baking soda and sprinkle the mixture over the carpet to create a more pleasant scent. After an hour or so make sure to vacuum up the baking soda.
Get Smoke Smell Out of Sofa Fabric, Rugs etc
For those who smoke in the home, treating just the carpet won’t cure the odors. You will also want to have your home’s upholstery and rugs cleaned as well. Wash curtains in the wash machine as they will contain odor. You will need to address all areas where the odors are trapped. Additionally, you will want to make sure to replace the air filter in your home if you smoke inside. The air filters capture the tiny particles in the smoke which is causing the odors. Another way to help reduce the odor scent is to open windows and air out the home.
